Most people starting out build a site, get some banners thrown together, add some links to the products their promoting and then wait for the money to start rolling in.

Great now you have a site up with all these banners, links and adds yet no one is buying. What happend? I thought It was supposed to be easy as 123, "This does'nt work! I quit! Thats the usual response of the average person just starting out with affiliate marketing..

Make no mistake, when applied properly affiliate marketing most certainly works and it's a fantastic way to make money online. Here are a few tips I've put together to help you avoid those dreaded mistakes made by average people starting out in affiliate marketing.

Do Banners work? Banners don't often work as well as text links, but it does depend on your subject.You should test both individually to determine what works best but often times you're better off sticking to text links rather than turning your website into a banner free for all.

What are the best products to promote? When starting out it's easy to just start promoting everything you see with affiliate earnings. That is a big mistake, the best products to promote are those that closely compliment your sites content. If your site is about fishing then don't use affiliate products selling unrelated products.

Stick to what you know that is where your efforts will be more productive. Think about it this way when you search for something online, you want to see as much information as possible about your target search. If you find unrelated material then you'll just search somewhere else.

How do I get people to visit my site?

One of the best ways to get visitors and keep them coming back to your site is to determing who your target market is, you should always know who your target market is. To become a super affiliate you'll need to build a website which speaks directly to the market you are trying to attract and you'll need to understand the needs of that specific market. Doing this will gain you their trust as an expert on that particular subject. Know your Target Market! So who's your target market?

These are the most common questions I hear when first starting out with affiliate marketing. Remember always try to research any of the products that you are going to be promoting from your site. I know it not easy to go through all of them but at the very least take a look at their sales pages to gather information on the product and the seller. People are not stupid if your promoting a product full of hype then your potential customer will flee as quick as he or she can, oh and they'll be taking their credit card with them. "No Sale for you" which mean no commission check. Review the product before promoting it.

One more thing, it is always a good idea to track your affiliate products to see how well they convert into real cash in your bank account. Try out different things in your promotions and make sure to track each one of them. Keep good records and if a product is not converting well then switch it out for another one till you get the right combination.
